After reconnecting with a friend through facebook, we decided to go to lunch. She came to SLC to see her sister graduate from college, and we decided to take advantage of that by meeting for lunch. We decided to meet at the Gateway mall. I barely missed the trax train, so I decided to wait 9 minutes for the next one. No big deal. I boarded the train and was happily on my way. Since today was particularly cold and rainy, there were a lot of homeless people (maybe they aren't actually homeless per se, but they were definitely very poor. and dirty.) So, the group of them are laughing and chuckling and then they break out in song. They all knew the words, and they weren't particularly quiet either. hee hee hee. I couldn't really understand most of the words, but the part they knew best was, "I keep gettin' richer, but they won't put my picture (read: pitchuh) on the cover of the Rolling Stones". I thought at some point there was something about someone named Katie. So, curious as I am, I typed that phrase (yes, the whole thing) into my google search bar. It is called, "Cover of the Rolling Stones" by Dr. Hook. That alone made me chuckle. For your sheer enjoyment, I'm copying the words below.
"Well We're big rock singers
We got golden fingers
And we're loved everywhere we go
"We sing about beauty
And we sing about truth
At ten thousand dollars a show
"We take all kinds of pills
To give us all kinds of thrills
But the thrill we've bever known
"Is the thrill that will get you
When you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone
chorus:
"Going to see my picture on the cover
Gonna buy five copies for my Mother
Gonna see my smiling face
On the cover of the Rooling Stone
"I got a freaky old lady
Name a cocaine Katy
Who embroiders on my jeans
I got my poor old gray hair Daddy
Driving my Limousine
"Now lets all decide
To blow our minds
But our minds won't really be blown
"Like the blow that will get'cha
When you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stones
chorus
"We got a lot of little
Teenage blue-eyed groupies
Who'd do anything we'd say
"We got a genuine Indian guru
He's teaching us a better way
We got all the friends that money can buy
So we never have to be alone
"And we keep getting richer
But we can't get our picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stones
chorus
chorus"
And now -- I'm really creeped out.
