Shout Out to My Peeps!

So I'm always looking for someone to go to the Gold's Gym in Bountiful with me. If you have a gym pass and want someone to go with...I'm your woman! Seriously though, if anyone is interested in going with me, just let me know.

Also, if I know you and you just happen to pop in sometimes, leave me your blog address! I'd love to read about what's happening in your lives!

Can they fire you for that?

I had to wait until this morning to post this, because I was still a little embarrassed about it yesterday. Laughing, but embarrassed...

So yesterday at work we had our "Christmas Party". Yes, I realize it's January, but because there were a lot of people leaving in December on trips and vacations, we decided to postpone our Christmas Lunch/Present Exchange. We were instructed to bring a $10 generic gift--and not a white elephant. We also had a taco bar, so we each signed up to bring condiments and sides. By the time the sign-up sheet made it's way to my desk, there were 3 things left. Rice, Beans, and Taco Sauce/Mole/Dressing. Well, I have no idea what mole is, and i thought rice would be great because I have a fantastic rice cooker (Thanks Merikami's!) that we got as a wedding gift. Well, I am a genius...I completely forgot my gift and my rice. Thankfully, I have a loving mother who filled in for me. She cooked the rice for me, and brought it to me. Lucky for me, there were 3 other people who also forgot their gifts and food responsibilities. We took a quick trip down to Albertson's, and I frantically searched for a good gift. Let's just say I was fairly limited in selection. Bummer.

Fast Forward to 12:45 p.m. By this time most had finished lunch, and other stragglers from the company (this was just our division/department Luncheon) had come to finish off our plentiful spread. I had a delicious drink that was bright yellow, and I was sitting next to my boss, and it was time to do the present exchange. My boss started singing with his eyes closed as we passed presents around. When the singing stops, you get the present in front of you. Well, if you know my clumsy ways, you can guess the next part. A very LARGE present knocked over my drink, and spilled it ALL OVER MY BOSS. He didn't notice at first because his eyes were closed and the drink hadn't soaked in all the way yet. SO EMBARRASSED!!!!!!! Many apologies later...

We had a staff meeting (just some of the staff though) about 45 minutes later, and my boss came in with a blanket wrapped around his legs. He mentioned he'd left his pants drying in his office. Yeah, I thought that was awkward. So he got up to make a presentation in the meeting and "accidentally" stepped on his blanket, and off it came. AAAHHHHH!!!! I screamed and threw my hands to my eyes as fast as I could though my protective efforts were not necessary. I was mortified! He had it all planned. He was wearing his pants, and apparently my face was "classic". At least that's what I'm told. Whew! Glad that's over...

Note to self: Water only, or don't sit by your boss...

When One Eye Closes, Another One Opens

So I'm sure you have all heard, but today President Gordon Bitner Hinckley passed on to another world. When I learned of the news, Josh said there was a quote by Elder Bruce R. McConkie that says, (speaking of passing on) "When one eye closes, another one opens". There have been some very tragic deaths in this last year. Some of my parent's dearest friends, elderly ward members I have known since I was small, neighbors that were far too young to pass (Bryce Brown and Brian Hughes and Kristen Hughes). I can't help but imagine what the welcome will be like for President Hinckley as he returns to his wife's side. I bet he is reuniting with family, former prophets and Church leaders.  I've wondered what it will be like when I, or others that I have known, pass on. I wonder if my Grandmothers are in the throngs of people greeting President Hinckley, or greeting those people that I have loved that they have never met, simply because i cared about them.  I've been privileged to have grown up while President Hinckley has been prophet. I remember him being referred to as the "Temple President". I can't help but wonder if all those people who have benefited from the vicarious work done in the many temples that were built because of the revelation he received. There are a lot of things I will always remember about President Hinckley, but more than anything, I'll remember his optimism and cheerful manner. I hope that I too, can have the optimism (maybe even the cool headed wit) that he had. Farewell President Hinckley, you will be greatly missed, as well as greatly received with your eyes newly opened.

P.S. I would imagine there will be quite a few teary-eyed congregations this year as the Primary kids sing "We Thank Thee O God For A Prophet" in their Primary Programs at the end of this year. (For those of you who haven't heard, I was released from Primary as Music Leader today in church)
